While acupuncture is all natural it does promote change in the body and occasionally leads to some side effects.
Acupuncture Side Effects:
Many times patients notice improvements in areas they aren't even receiving treatment for. We like to call these "pleasant side effects." These happen indirectly as the body is healing itself and finding more balance. We commonly hear folks report better sleep, less stress or anxiety, improved digestion, and more.
The most common side effect is slight bruising or achy feeling at an acupuncture point. The aching usually resolves fairly quickly, bruising resolves in up to a week. If you are taking blood thinners, please let your acupunk know.
Sometimes patients report feeling tired or fatigued after treatment. This is something we see when a patient has been burning their candle at both ends - it is a sign that the body is asking for more rest. If you notice this, we encourage you to schedule your appointments with the time and space after treatment to rest if needed.
Very rarely patients report a temporary flareup in symptoms. This is usually very short lived. This "therapeutic dip" is generally a sign change is happening and your body is beginning to respond more strongly to treatment.
We are always more than happy to adjust treatments to be more comfortable for you. For any specific questions or concerns please talk with your acupunk, send us an email, or give us a call!
